St Emilion wine run

On our last visit to St Emilion, we had bookmarked the wine festival that was commencing there today. The weather looked promising in the morning, and after sitting on our sun lounges reading for a couple of hours in the sun, we hit the road, traveling via the quietest roads we could find to St Emilion via Libourne.

The weather closed in on us super quickly, just as we hit Libourne. We had a quick look at their weekday markets and chilled out with a cup of tea until the rain eased.

A short window, really short as it turned out, opened for us to ride to St Emilion, dark storm clouds chasing us all the way! You’d think we were in the last km of a 100 km race the way we screamed into St Emilion! The heavens unleashed fury as we arrived. This time we waited for the weather to ease by having hot chocs in a bar and watching a hugely educational video about wine making.

The festival we had gone to St Emilion for had only just started as we were about to leave, at 3pm. Fortunately, we had the pleasure (?) of sampling many of the region’s finest wines. We weren’t too impressed and even one of the cellar staff agreed that Aussie wine is much better!!

The clouds parted, leaving us with a beautiful ride home in full sunshine.

You two don't seem to be able to take a trick with the weather! You will probably find the festival will go all weekend now, hence the late start on Friday - just when you are en route to Paris. Let's hope the Parisians turn on some sunshine so that you can enjoy their lovely city!
